I've been running my line off of a Grizzly 660 quad for years. The fact that it has no cover is a real issue on foul weather days and as I get older, getting on and off gets harder. I also use an Argo for deep snow but it's really slow and skid steering is torture on my old back. I'm looking for a side-by side that has a full cab and maybe windshield wipers and a heater. The makers all hype their machines as being the best thing since sliced bread, but I'm asking input from you guys who have the miles of riding experience to give dependable advice. What recommendations can you give me? Thanks.

I'm like you I trapped off of a Polaris sportsman for years and just got tired of it, I looked at about every side by side made for over a year before I decide on a Polaris ranger. I found a used 2008 700 XP with a full steel Polaris cab, heater, defroster and wipers and after a few modifications I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have only run it for trapping a couple months so not sure how it's going to hold up but I have had Polaris in the past and they all held up great.

I'm a big fan of the yamaha Rhino. I don't know what options they have for cabs but the (2) machines I have used run great and have been problem free. My trapping partner has a 2008 arctic cat prowler and he usually overloads it and breaks A arms on that thing every year.

I think vie had to deal with about every brand this year.
Yamaha Viking. Decent in the mud. Not alot of room in the bed. Handles deep water well
Ranger. Good in mud.room in the bed and cab. Drinks gas. Fair in deep water.
Razor. To small all around and to fast.
Telex. Same as razor.
Big red. Handles mud and water well. Fair on gas. Plenty of room and power.
Mule. Should be called suck ass
Kubota diesel. To heavy for deep mud and water. Steers like a car. Rides like a pickup. Plenty of room. Heater works great. Ac will cool 30 degree below outside temp. 19 mpg. If I was out west it would be Kubota for me.

I know nothing about these side by sides but one if the farmers I trap on let's me use his gator anytime sometimes when it's muddy I'll use it. The thing is nicer than some of the vehicles I've owned and goes 45+ MPH. I take it a few miles from his farm in any direction , it's a sweet rig. Has a back seat and dump bed. He said in the spring that he loads his mexicans up in it and turns them loose with it to pick rocks.

Sorry wildcat but Polaris anything sucks......been there and done that and a few other folks I know same boat SUCKS. Where I live and run the woods help is a long way off and I can not for the life of me recommend a Polaris to get me back to cell service or camp.

Sorry you had a bad experience decoy but Polaris didn't get to be the top manufacture of side by sides, four wheelers and snowmobiles by not being dependable. Don't think the military would spend tens of millions of dollars for something they didn't think would make it back.

By the time I get where Im going in a utv style sidexside I look like it drug me there(NO WINDSHIELD,HALF SHIELD,BACK WINDSHIELD windshield whatever)except for a Razor which I felt very secure and safe in. I dont have one yet but I will, and in the very near future. In Nevada its dry and dusty and a long ways to go between stops so there is nothing wrong with a little comfort and speed and your only going to really need a lot room maybe once per season

Well I took the dive and bought a 2011 Polaris Ranger 700. It has the extras I wanted....glass windows, wiper, heater, power steering, skid plate, and a Warn winch. I took it for a test ride and was impressed. Not knowing the maintenance history, I took it to a Polaris service center to have it thoroughly inspected. The weather is turning ugly here and I am really looking forward to running my trapline out of the elements.

You will enjoy it. I bought mine last year and wished I wound have bought it years ago. A few modifications to the bed and its a perfect trapping rig.

Are any of you having trouble gett'n in or out of those side by sides. Bad back and knees don'y take kindly to stretching to much.

My Ranger is easy on the back to get in and out of because the seat sits up higher. Don’t get one that the seat is lower to the ground. I sat in a RZR and it would kill me to climb in and out of that thing because the seat is so low to the ground.

I thought a RZR was the best thing since canned milk, after taking some warm weather long backroad rides and drives into some rough country. Well,
I have changed my mind after hunting deer and coyotes in that same country at cooler temperatures. Heavy clothing is a curse and makes getting in and out miserable and the lack of movement from being all snuggled in the seat makes it seem a lot colder than it is. Plus something broke in transmission and started making a terrible grinding clunk when moving slow. Then found out it only has a 500 mile warranty. Think I will stick with my Grizzly and Kodiak for a while longer. Definitely not infatuated with it any longer

Buddy brought his Polaris Ranger to elk camp this year. He just put $1200 into it for some maintenance. Made it half way through the second day and the right side rear axle fell out of the rear differential. Second time it's happened. Only one I've ever rode in but would sure look elsewhere if I was in the market. Loud, hard on gas, stinky gas fumes when riding in back seat, windshield wiper blows fuses. That is my first impression of it for what it's worth.
