543 coyotes on a 24hr trap check. DAMN!!! That is flat out astonishing. Not that I don't believe it because I do, but do you have any pictures? What was your best day? A guy like you is at a level of trapping accomplishment that is really hard to comprehend.

factor in time frame too, year `round or in a month. either way it`s a lot of coyotes. I`ve done the live deal and it`s more work and lots more skill than just whack and stack.

and no he won`t have pics as live trapping you get 60-120 coyotes in cages and you are out of room. so you sell. and I guarantee live trapping is every 24, probably every 8 hrs on occasion.

I take carcase pile pictures as no way I`m spending a day or more to put hides on a barn. plus they don`t make barns big enough. same way with live trapping. one time I had 462 live red fox on hand and 60 some coyotes. you can`t imagine the time just feeding and etc. it was insane and I never allowed that to happen again. oh I caught lots more, many years over a 1,000 but never all `live and on hand at one time.

Not to mention the longer you keep live market animals the smaller your profit margine. Especially coyotes because they can consume unbelievable amounts of feed

and get elbow sores yadda yadda. everyone and their brother will sell them for $35 and knife a serious `live guy in the back. why I quit it, except for a few that don`t mind paying well. over the years it went from $150 unlimited demand to 75 to 50 to begging. thank goodness the fur market is better and now not at the `live buyers mercy. at least on the better western type coyotes. just another deal where trappers ruined it themselves, trying to see who could sell cheaper and lose the least money and still be standin. for me it got to where the only good prices were in the 100 degree summer market. come cool weather I had no intention compete with the $35 cripples non vaccinated, illegal, starved etc etc.

I have wondered often times about how big of a problem illegal non vaccinated animals are for live market guys. Is it just do to little oversight, like do you have to call a state to inform them you are selling x amount of animals to whoever? Is there any paperwork involved at all? I always assumed the paperwork burden fell on the buyer, if a trapper is taking animals off a legal licence by legal means can you just haul them live anywhere?

OH BOY. YES TONS OF HOOPS AND WATCHED CLOSELY SO NO SLIDING. DESPITE DOING ALL THAT LEGAL, MOST OF THE LEGAL LIVE TRAPPERS ARE OUT OF BIZ DUE TO THE ILLEGAL BROTHER TRAPPERS AND THE BROTHER TRAPPERS SELLING SO CHEAP THEY HAVE GUTTED THE MARKET. MOST STATES NO LONGER ALLOW IMPORT OR EVEN IN STATE LIVE TAKING DUE TO PAST ABUSES AND CRIMINAL TYPE BROTHER TRAPPERS RUINING IT FOR ALL THE REST. THAT`S THE SHORT STORY. WHY i DETEST HOBBY TRAPPERS MASQURADING AS PROS. CRIPPLES, DOWNRIGHT INHUMANE ACTIVITY, ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, BOOT LEGGING,NO VACCINATIONS OR PERMITS OR ANYTHING. PAY NO TAXES OR REPORT ANYTHING. SCUM OF THE EARTH.

To bad for you legit outfits. Riding home from Greenfield last year it occurred to me that that when the live market thing took off you were already situated to be one of the largest producers having your trapping experience plus a DVM Licence. Glad it worked out for you while it did.

it was great. literally "bought the farm". I feel like the mountain men that lived thru a time in trapping history that will never be repeated. I was blessed beyond measurement to have it all fall togather, the populations, the market and the knowledge and the go getem` to do it. most windows of opportunity in life only remain open for short periods. if one is available and sees the opening and takes it, well that`s how it works. by the time most see the open windows they are sliding shut. I was first in and last out and rode it the whole way. no regrets and no complaints.
