i DON`T HAVE HARDLY ANY GATES. MAYBE 4-6 A DAY IS ALL. A LOT OF OPEN RANGE WITH NO FENCES OR GATES. IN WYOMING i COUNTED GATES ONE SPRING DAY AND OPENED AND CLOSED 38 GATES ONE DAY. TWICE IN AND TWICE OUT. 38 X4 = 152 TIMES. i WAS MAKING 3-5 GRAND A DAY DENNING THEN SO IT WASN`T SO BAD. COME ON DOWN , OR UP, CHICK. YOU KNOW YOU GET THE SPECIAL DISCOUNT AND YOU CAN EVEN HAVE THE TUB FIRST BEFORE THE HOT WATER RUNS OUT.

Trade ya, Bob, for a couple days on the rat line (HA). Easier to skin (by a LONG ways) and the money adds up quick. Of course no mystery in it and never a truck to get back into when froze to death. Haven't found a way to get a heater in the boat yet but move fast enough and the body does it all....usually.
Just have to get a couple little silly laws change first is all. That happens and God might even fill the Dakotas back up. Till then, I think he might hold back on the rat production for those folks.
Steven....You get Bob out on the ice yet? He/d probably still find a way to catch a few coyotes next to the huts each day.

I get it, though. We all have our preferences. Maybe if I trapped out west I/d give up on rats, too...well, when they go back to $2 that is...not until.
Hard to keep going on just rats...it's true, but can always toss in some coon, mink and beaver to break things up a bit.

borrowed this from some guy on tman. who chops the most wood even if the guy with the dull axe works twice as long, the dull axe guy or the sharp axe guy? sometimes money spent on a sharper ax is a heck of a wise investment. no one using a dull axe can teach you how to sharpen one. no sweat off my back, I`ll be there trapping with or without students. I have a razor sharp axe. I`m willing to share.

might have told this story, forgive me if I`m repeating. this year a guy stopped by the house last summer that had never trapped but a few coyotes, like less than 6, behind a housing addition. otherwise never trapped before. fairly wealthy guy, high paying corporate job in industry. he had seem my coyote dvd and ran me down to get on the line instructions. had the idea he might want to trap full time after he retired, supplement his investments and other income. ok, so he comes west for 3 days. he saw 25 or 30 coyotes and a mix of badgers coons skunks etc caught in 3 days. after it`s over he tells me, well I got my moneys worth and a lot more and found out what I wanted to know and learn. that being trapping is long hours of hard work that is dirty and doesn`t pay very well. I`m not going to trap in my retirement after all. then he left to go to steamboat springs where he had hired another instructor for $400 a day to teach him to be an ice climber. where they strap on spikes and climb up frozen waterfalls, or where seeped water has froze on cliffs. for fun. needlss to say he didn`t help skin or cut heads off. he was helpful opening the few gates and carrying stuff on occasion.

That is a tempting offer but I don't know...for a couple dollars more I understand that I could spend another day or two with Clint and Newt and that includes home cooked meals...  Be careful bob. When neo gets to eating $100 /hour won't cover the tip! |

LAST OPENING IN DECEMBER IS 24, 25, AND 26. YEP, TRAP ON CHRISTMAS SAME AS ANY OTHER DAY. HAVE 2 OPENINGS LEFT IN NOVEMBER. JANUARY IS BOOKED SOLID, UNLESS SOMEONE CANCELS. YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE. i DON`T THINK YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE ELSE THAT CAN SHOW YOU 10-20 COYOTES A DAY LIKE CLOCKWORK, PLUS MISC FUR, AND SKIN AND HANDLE AND MARKET IT ALL THEMSELVES. WADDEL IS THE ONLY OTHER INSTRUCTOR i KNOW OF THAT WILL TAKE YOU ON A REAL LINE . THE REST WANT THE BACKYARD SUMMER HERE IS THE SECRET SET STUFF. SEE IF THE DEMO GUYS AT THE CONVENTIONS WILL TAKE YOU ON A WORKING LINE, LOL, WHAT WORKING LINE?

HAD 2 STUDENTS IN NOVEMBER. ONE SAW 23 COYOTES IN 2 DAYS AND THE OTHER 31 IN 2 DAYS. ALL 24 HR CKS. ONE WAS MY DEC 30-JAN 1 AND HE CAME IN NOVEMBER INSTEAD, SO DEC 30-JAN 1 IS BACK OPEN. LOTS OF DOUBLES AND TRIPLES. A FEW 4`S AND 5`S. YOU WON`T SEE IT ANYWHERE ELSE.

THERE IS NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD WILL DO THAT ALL IN FOOTHOLDS AND ON 24 HR CKS AND IN 6 WEEKS. i DON`T CLAIM TO BE BETTER THAN ANYONE, BUT i CAN DO IT. AND SHOW HOW TO DO IT.
