Good post John, I have pretty good helo coverage in my insurance plan but there are some caveats. Many plans don't cover it at all or a reduced price.
Gus can probably expand on the costs more but even though we think that 40k is a lot for a ride there is more to it than what most realize. Those helicopters and outfitting them cost alot of money, it isnt like they are being used regularly. They also have to be staffed. The less equipment is used the more the owner has to charge when it is used

All I did was use a high end average for that state because of the somewhat remote area. I have NO idea what it will cost. Prolly more than my truck. Lol.

John, I just read a report published in 2013 that the Air Force estimates the cost to operate a HH-60 helicopter approximately 24,000 dollars and hour, a Huey at $13k and change.

My buddy was the communications guy on there.
Sorry, not AF1, Marine one. Cleanest helicopter I've ever seen. Never seen one that didn't leak.

That's a lot of couch coins. Dang. I went down hard in a CH-46 and less hard in a 60 Blackhawk. Neither were fun but the 46 landed in a bad area. Real bad. Lol. They sure know how to drive them suckers.

Flew in one of those helicopters in 1992. Bill was $9,500.00. Takes an hour and a half to drive the distance we flew. I paid the bill and no one helped me. I was also paying for the best health insurance you can buy and it wasn't covered. The gentlemen in that chopper were worth every penny. I've always been bothered I could never thank them.

Gus, Nobody badmouthed anyone, you ruin this site for many people. You need to go back and read Bob's post on the 1st page. If that's not bad mouthing Andy it's as close as you can get. No, it is bad mouthing him. USMC47 is a class act that the rest of us should try and follow. He's trying to help a buddy out and some people can't stand that. Unbelievable.

USMC47, First of all thanks for your service! Don't know about Montana but around here they get called out way to much. My house is in the flyway between two regional hospitals and Cincinnati. (UC in Cincy has to take all cases. They also have a world class trauma center. (all the shot-up gangbangers are treated there, N/C of course) I don't consider a broken limb from a car wreck worthy of a helo ride.(fairly common here) Also the cost is so high because most don't pay a dime. My son was injured bad years ago, first thing I did was up my coverage.

hardly. don`t even know andy. the MALONE AUCTION IS WHAT SOURED ME ON ANY TMAN AUCTIONS. YOU WANT TO HELP PEOPLE? WELL HOW ABOUT SEVERELY CRIPPLED SERVICE MEN, THEIR WIVES RAISING KIDS ALONE? HOW ABOUT TIME WITH A KID WITH NO DAD? LOTS AND LOTS OF WAYS TO BE GENEROUS TO FOLKS WITH REAL NEED.

been thinking about this. there was a time when taking charity or welfare was something to be ashamed of, and no one would take it other than they needed food for their kids. even then they would do without or work extra jobs or sell things off, anything to keep from accepting $ from others. it was a pride thing. so tell me is anyone in these "auctions" destitute, kids going with out food? if they are I`ll help out. if not, I`m helping others that are in that shape already. the ones that really need a helping hand.

In that case, I'm starting a service dog program where 100% of all dogs go to wounded veterans. It's the third of its kind I've set up. When I'm done, I'll let you know, Bob. Let you put your money where your mouth is.
The great thing is that No one needs to give a penny. Some people do it because they like the beneficiary, some do it because it makes them feel good.
Thanks for the honesty - Good, bad, or ugly.

" in andys case, he can afford to trap full time, have a trapping supply business , run ads in the magazines and go to conventions, but he can`t afford insurance? andy I have not a thing in the world against,as I said in another post just as well call a spade a spade. I`m very very generous when I see real need. I just don`t see the need for grown men if they shirked their responsibility to themselves or their family. speaking of which, where is family in all this???"
Sure sounds like bad mouthing to me. The Malone auction has nothing to do with Andy's case so why try and compare them. Apples and oranges. My favorite charity is the Salvation Army by the way. You don't need to lecture me about our service men, my Dad went in the Navy in 1937 and spent 23 years in there. Was born overseas and lived on a few bases and know all about the hardships their families face. Like you said, just calling spade a spade.

so anyone going to tell me if anyone in these auctions is starving? didn`t think so. I know some folks that really are, I`ll give them priority. I saw on dobbins even he says no more auctions. that is a breath of fresh air. 47, save yourself the effort of contacting me for a donation to your next service dog program, I`m already in the zone. however, accolades to you for those type programs.
