lady living on the edge of a neighborhood surrounded by small farms, with a pond containing about 50 duck plus more ducklings had one duck taken by a red or grey fox.
She will not allow foot holds (duck may get caught), no snares (duck may step in it), wants cages so she can release captured ducks. I recommend cage traps (if by chance a grey fox) and fox model colarum, she just wanted advise wants to do it her self.
Part One: Has anyone used the fox model collarum?
Part Two: Anyone had any luck capturing an adult Red Fox in a cage trap??? Unless the fox is sick I would think almost impossible especially with a ready food source.
Thanks

Richard, Have caught maybe a dozen adult reds and large juvenile red fox in cage traps as incedentals while coon trapping using fish based baits. Actually had both adults and one pup one day at the local golf course 3-4 years ago while trying to catch coons that were defacating on the golf carts. (I shook the cages real good before releasing them.....didn't catch them again in the cages).
Made me look like a fool as I had promised the grounds keeper that I wouldn't catch the fox....

lol, you can only adult catch red fox in cage traps when you aren`t suppose to. try to do it and never works. I have caught a couple thousand fox and coyote pups in repeating box traps, best ever I had 6 in one trap. had em stacked right up. but never have caught an adult. maybe because I always foot trap the adult fox or coyotes before I jack with the den. don`t want to risk them moving the den and me have to re-locate it all over again. only ever had but one or two move a den that I couldn`t re find the 2nd den. but it`s just time I don`t have to find a den more than one time. denning time is always rush rush anyay, so can`t scrud up.

Well she received her two fox model collarums in the mail yesterday, she can not wait to set these. Maybe she can figure it out with the provided DVD.
I may know where the den is however there is no way in hell to get permission from the 5 landowners I would have to cross and I am sure at least three of these are feeding the fox.
Kind of hope she does not catch the fox now and orphans the pups. Fox got to eat.

Just an update: Ms. Duck lover has deployed here fox model collurum, called me kind of upset she has not caught the fox. Was also upset that she did not catch any in the cages I loaned her. I told her so,
HOWEVER, she bought more ducks, must be almost 200 on a 2 acres pond, man talk about a serious mess and health risk, crap is everywhere.
