What I'm doing is open water, trapping on the side of the hut and the feed piles.

Robert;
There is a guy on Trapperman, Dennis Gilliam who is selling 67 of the #2's like you want. Pretty pricey though but maybe can get at better price.
Thanks, Kelly

My ultimate rat trap would be: New 1.5 duke, pinch pan installed, stock springs replaced with med strenght 4 coil springs, about like what comes on a brid no 2 4 coil, then powdercoat it. And as much as Id hate to have to spend the time doing it, prolly laminate it. That last item really makes them shine-powdercoating I mean.''
Robert Ive used a pile of no 2 and 3 coils like you mentioned also, and sometimes my trap of choice in 6" water, especially heavy grass and weeds that lead to entanglement. Ive seen over and over how you can drown a rat real simple w/ a heavylarge trap in 6" water. also on no 3 coils, its a killer trap about 40% of the time, catching by head. If money no object, and didnt mind packing the wieght, a new no 2 bridger coil would a fine trap. why anybody would want to mess with a stoploss is beyond me.
Between a 1.5 duke, and an old style vic or b.l. no 2, I really dont see any huge difference. Think a duke 1.5 weights just as much. Id rather work over a new trap, with everything being the same starting out, as opposed to trying to repair a bunch of old used traps with worn out dogs, rounded out notches and such, but thats just me. Old sq jaw 2's have one advantage over 1.5 duke ill give them, they wear out your hands as fast setting couple 100 per day.
Wait till ya see my tricked out No 1 longs this summer! All for a certain situation where a no 1 preforms far superior to any trap out there when certain perameters are followed.

Rich, Your right about the weight being comparable between the Duke 1 1/2 and the old style Victor #2 square jaw but....The #2 gets a higher / bigger hold on the rats, very seldom by just a single foot. They also catch a fair percentage by the head, also have a bigger pan than the 1 1/2s.
I find them to be an excellent trap for rats without the increased weight and cost of packing around #3s.

Rich, Your going to have to explain how any #1 longspring can possibly be better than a 1 1/2 longspring.
