I just got back from hunting with Michael in Oklahoma. What a great couple of guys. I think they were more excited when we got our birds than we were and that's saying a lot. If anyone wants to add a Rio Grande turkey to their collection, they've got a ton of birds there. With the leases they have they've got several different areas to hunt, so you can hit one area and then let it cool off for a couple of days before hunting it again. My friend, Ron, from Colorado Springs and I each took two nice grown birds. Most of the spurs were right at one inch and the beards were in the 9-10 inch range. We were the first hunters in there this year and probably went a little early. The gobblers were still henned up and it was hard pulling them in. I think the last week of April would be ideal to hunt there. I'm not kidding when I say they have a ton of birds though. We set up on a woodline by a winter wheat field one morning and I counted over 20 separate gobblers sounding off along the river. Definitely a great hunt and price. Here's a few pictures from our hunt: My second bird. We were working two gobblers just down the field from us when I looked up and had this one running to us from across the other side of the field. He had 1 1/16 spurs (which were the longest we got) and a 9 1/2 beard. My friend Ron's first bird. It was the heaviest bird we took and probably weighed about 23 pounds (we didn't have a scale). Spurs from the same bird. I'll definitely be hunting with these guys again. We stayed in Clinton, OK and you just can't beat the hospitality of those folks. There was even a casino there so we did a little gambling on our last evening in town. I won 120 bucks playing Texas Hold'em.

Great pics! I am so glad you had a good time and got a bird. I have seen a few the last couple of weeks, but bird hunting is not for me. I can't keep my mouth shut that long or be that still. Congrats!!!

Great pictures and congrat's on the Turkey. Clinton is about 2 1/2 hrs northeast of my place. We have a tons of Turkeys and I've had plenty of Jakes but trying to get that long beard in. I guess I'm not sounding pretty enough. LOL I might just go ahead and get a Jake first then go after long beard. I just love being out there calling and watching them.

If your place is like where we hunted, we had better luck during late morning/early afternoon. They'd fly down from the roost and the gobblers would stick with their hens until all the ones that wanted to be bred had gotten......satisfied. Once the hens moved off we were able to coax a few birds in. I'd love to be there at the end of the month!
